Ways to make trend photos of yourself
Action figures in a toy box, 90s Polaroids and photo booth strips are everywhere. Here is how the common ways to make one compare, including when you don't need our app.
We compare kinds of options rather than specific products, because every service changes its features and prices often. Check the current terms of any tool before you upload a photo.
Comparison
| Option | What you do | Likeness | Speed | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General AI chat assistant with images | Upload a photo and write your own prompt | Varies; often needs retries | Minutes, with back-and-forth | Free tiers or a subscription | Unusual ideas you can describe well |
| Photo editing apps with filters | Apply filters, stickers and effects | Your real photo, lightly changed | Seconds | Often free with in-app purchases | Small touch-ups, not a full restyle |
| An illustrator or artist | Commission a custom piece | As good as the artist | Days to weeks | Per piece, usually the highest | A one-of-a-kind gift or print |
| A real photo booth | Visit a booth at a mall or event | Your real face | A few minutes | Per strip | A physical strip with friends |
| PopShot | Pick a trend, add a selfie, tap Pop it | Keeps your face as the goal; results vary | About 10 to 30 seconds | Premium subscription to create | Fast trend photos and four-pose strips for stories |
When an AI chat assistant is the better choice
If you want something no template offers, a general AI assistant that makes images can follow any description. The cost is prompt writing: you describe the trend, the packaging, the light and the pose yourself, and often try several times before your face looks right.
When a photo editing app is the better choice
If you only want better light, a filter or a few stickers on a real photo, a regular photo editor is enough and keeps the photo authentic. It won't turn you into a figurine or a Renaissance painting.
When an artist is the better choice
For a gift, a print or a profile picture you'll keep for years, a human artist gives you a unique piece and can take feedback. It takes longer and costs more than any app.
When a real photo booth is the better choice
Nothing beats a real booth for a night out: you get a physical strip and everyone is in the picture. PopShot's strips are digital and made from one selfie of one person; for a group photo, a Group Pop puts up to 4 people into one trend, but it is still a digital image, not a printed strip.
When PopShot fits
PopShot is built for one thing: fast, share-ready trend photos of yourself and your friends. It fits when you want the current trends without writing prompts: 12 ready trends, Group Pops with up to 4 people, an Edit look with 8 categories, four-frame booth strips and story-ready exports. The trade-offs: it is iPhone-only, creating needs a Premium subscription with a daily allowance, it needs an internet connection, and your photo is processed by a third-party AI service when you create.
