PopShot: frequently asked questions
Short, direct answers about the AI trend photo booth.
What is PopShot?
PopShot is an iPhone app that turns one selfie into viral photo trends, such as an action figure in a toy box, a 90s Polaroid, a Y2K flash photo, anime or a Renaissance painting. It can also make a four-pose photo booth strip from the same selfie.
Is PopShot free?
The download is free and you can browse every trend, but creating images requires PopShot Premium, a weekly or yearly auto-renewing subscription. In the US it costs $6.99 a week or $49.99 a year; prices in other countries are shown in the App Store. There are no ads.
Where does my photo go? Is it stored?
Your photo is sent only when you start a creation, together with a short text description of your choices. It goes through the developer's secure cloud function to a third-party AI provider (kie.ai), which makes the image and sends it back. Nothing is stored on our servers, and kie.ai deletes its files automatically after a limited time. Your Pops stay on your iPhone and in your private iCloud database if iCloud is on. See the privacy policy.
Does PopShot keep my face?
Yes, that is the goal: the AI is told to keep your face and identity and change the style, outfit, light and scene. As with any AI image tool, results vary, so a clear, well-lit selfie gives the best likeness.
How long does a result take?
Usually about 10 to 30 seconds. A Live Activity shows the progress on your Lock Screen if you leave the app.
Which trends are included?
12 trends: Action Figure, Toy Figure, Miniature, Pop Art Comic, 90s Polaroid, Y2K Flash, Yearbook, Anime, 3D Cartoon, Magazine, Movie Still and Renaissance. They are grouped into four collections, and a dice button picks one at random.
What is a booth strip?
A booth strip is four AI frames of you with different poses (big smile, peace sign, silly face, cool look) in one look, printed on a classic vertical photo booth strip with the date. A strip uses 4 creations from your daily allowance.
Is there a limit on how many images I can make?
Yes. Premium includes a daily creation allowance, shown in the app. A single trend uses 1 creation and a booth strip uses 4; a strip that fails or is cancelled uses none.
Can I change the outfit or background?
Yes. Edit look sets the era (Victorian to the 2010s), outfit, hair, accessories, light, camera & film, scene and a sidekick, and Shuffle picks a random mix. All of these are optional.
How can I share my result?
Every result opens with Share to story. You can also make a 9:16 story card, a 3-second before/after video or a wallpaper, save or share the image, or turn it into a booth strip.
Can I be in the same photo as my friends?
Yes. Group Pop puts 2 to 4 people in one trend, either from separate selfies or from one photo that already has everyone in it. All 12 trends work, and you can set matching outfits. Everyone's photo is processed like yours, so only add people who agree.
If I close the app, will my Pop be lost?
No. A Pop in progress keeps going after you close the app, and it appears in My Pops when it's ready. A Live Activity also shows the progress on your Lock Screen.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up or login. Your library syncs through your own iCloud account if iCloud is turned on.
Does PopShot work offline?
No. Creating an image needs an internet connection because the AI runs online. You can browse My Pops without a connection.
Is PopShot available on Android or iPad?
No. PopShot is an iPhone app for iOS 17 or later.
When will PopShot be on the App Store?
PopShot is coming soon to the App Store. This site will link to it as soon as it is live.
